Bachelor of Engineering - Mechatronics Engineering

Beginning in the first year, you can choose a focus subject in either robotics or embedded systems. During the course of the program, students will solve real industry and community problems that involve mechatronics engineering as they gain knowledge and acquire skills in mechanical, electrical, electronics and computer engineering. Students use emerging and cutting-edge technologies in robotics, mechatronic systems design, control, electronics, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), motors, mechanical components, digital and analog circuits, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), machine learning, modelling, simulation, embedded systems, and advanced manufacturing.

Each of these themes provides theoretical knowledge alongside hands-on training to complement a systems-thinking approach to solving real-world problems. In addition, this program provides an opportunity to work on industry-led projects through multidisciplinary capstone projects as well as applied research opportunities. Through these experiences, students apply the theoretical knowledge gained during their education to solve real industry problems, while improving their professional skills such as teamwork, communication, collaboration and problem-solving. This program is also offered at Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Students in the program will collaborate on activities using technology that will involves simultaneous learning at both colleges.

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:

• Grade 12 English (ENG4U or equivalent)
• Grade 12 Physics (SPH4U)
• Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
• Grade 12 Mathematics course from one of the following: Advanced Functions (MHF4U) OR Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U)
• Two Grade 12 U or M courses in addition to those listed above
• A final grade of not less than 65 per cent in each of the listed course requirements
• Overall minimum grade point average (GPA) 65 per cent

English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

International Credit Evaluation

Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.

Entrance Scholarships

To recognize academic achievement, Humber offers Degree Entrance and Degree Transfer Scholarships. These scholarships are automatically awarded based on academic average or credential completion.

Degree Entrance Scholarships

Humber awards degree scholarships automatically to graduating high school students based on academic achievement. See the following chart for details. Some of the scholarships are renewable each year if you maintain an average of 80 per cent or more.

Degree Entrance Scholarship Average Requirement

Degree Transfer Scholarships ($1,500 - $2,500) Humber automatically awards degree transfer scholarships to students entering any Humber degree program who have completed a one-year Ontario college certificate* or a two- or three-year diploma with a GPA of 80 per cent or more from a publicly-funded college. Students who have achieved a program GPA of 80 per cent or more will be awarded a one-time scholarship of $1,500 for a certificate program or $2,500 for a diploma program in recognition of their academic achievement. Certificates and diplomas do not have to be related to the degree program of choice and are not tied to the eligibility for advanced standing or transfer credit. No application is required.

*Certificates do not include Ontario Graduate Certificates, Certificates of Achievement or Certificates of Completion.

Indigenous Student Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships

Humber provides assistance to Indigenous Students in meeting the costs of their tuition and living expenses while studying full-time or part-time.

Bursaries

Humber is dedicated to providing you with a variety of bursaries to help you successfully pursue your education while managing your finances. Bursaries are available for Diploma, Degree, and Post-Graduate Certificate programs and are awarded primarily based on financial need. Academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and community involvement may also be considered.

Graduates of the program may find careers in advanced manufacturing, energy, health care, food and pharmaceutical, packaging, consulting, transportation, and automotive as well as in other emerging industrial sectors.
