Located in Northeast Ohio, Akron is home to several small and large industries, as well as nearby government laboratories. The University also has an excellent International Center on campus that provides support for students from before they arrive in the US to after they graduate.

100 Years of Excellence

The College of Engineering and Polymer Science has consistently been at the forefront of innovation and research success. Examples of this include:

• Based on a study by Stanford University in 2021, 35 current University of Akron faculty members were named among the world’s top 2% of scientists, including many engineering and polymer researchers
• Investment in creating expansive laboratory and classroom space in the UA Engineering Research Center, Auburn Science and Engineering Center, and Goodyear Polymer Center
• Establishment of an innovative partnership with The Timken Company, which led to the creation of The Timken Engineered Surfaces Laboratories and Center for Precision Manufacturing
• Establishment of the National Center for Education and Research on Corrosion and Materials Performance
• Creation of a new College in 2020 — the College of Engineering and Polymer Science — to harness the collective strengths of our colleagues and provide students with even more opportunities for success
