The predecessor of the University of Human Environments was the Okazaki Sewing Girls' School, which was established in 1897. In 2003, the master's program of the Graduate School of Human Environmental Studies was established, in 2015, the doctoral program of the Faculty of Nursing and the Graduate School of Nursing was established in Ofu City, Aichi Prefecture, and in 2017, Matsuyama in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture.
